Great Basin National Park really means a lot to me for many reasons. First of all, it's just flat out gorgeous, and it doesn't receive many visitors. Second, Wheeler Peak, the mountain featured in this photo, is the tallest mountain that I have ever climbed. Finally, it has terrific dark skies at night with very little light pollution.
Nighttime in Nevada: Occidental Mineshaft of the Past
I've been using a Sony A7S for all my nighttime photography, but I recently got a Sony A7R ii and have been testing it out in low light. It's a little more noisy at 8,000 ISO than the Sony A7S, but it's still the second best camera for night photography that I have used. This one was from my second try with it at night and was taken at the Occidental Mineshaft near Virginia City.
